Electromagnetics Coupled with Inelastic Thermomechanics seeks to provide a common approach for solving those engineering problems that require coupling between electric, magnetic, thermal and mechanical fields, combining knowledge from both electrical and mechanical engineering.

This requires restructuring from the two disciplines, merging and enlarging to provide new solutions, without artificially connecting traditional expositions. In particular, this merges a system point-of-view with a local (material) point-of-view and presents both within a thermodynamics framework that can handle both elastic and inelastic constitutive behavior.

The book provides optimal discrete approximations for scalar fields in terms of Whitney's elements, and vector fields in terms of Raviart-Thomas vector space finite elements; with the latter requiring regularized variational formulation. It presents more complex constitutive equations of electromagnetics in a multiscale framework, illustrated with application to ferroelectric materials. Finally, it explains how to use probability tools to handle fine scale material uncertainty and build a reduced model.
